There is one Form of Godhead, which is also in the Word; and one God the Father, existing in himself as he transcends all things, and manifest in the Son as he pervades all things, and in the Spirit as in him he acts in all things through the Word.  Thus we confess God to be One through the Trinity, and claim that our understanding of the One Godhead in Trinity is much more godly than the heretics’ conception of Godhead with its many forms and its many parts. – Athanasius, Contra Arianos, 3.15.
